Back in the fall of 2015, my husband and I made the huge decision to change the path of our family. We decided to homeschool all three of our boys and truly embrace a simpler life which has equated to a lot slower pace of life and a lot more time outside.

And as a mom of three boys, they love it! So we spend as many days as possible enjoying our lunchtime outside. And we also do our lessons outside on gorgeous days.

But you know what completes our lessons and picnics? An amazing picnic table that is functional for almost any gathering.

So I’ve got over 40 picnic table plans that are absolutely free to share with you.

And whether you want a picnic table as a place to enjoy an outdoor lunch, host a family gathering, or even to have school on a pretty day these picnic table plans are sure to put you one step closer to creating that ideal space.

1. The Farm Picnic Table

This picnic table is a traditional style table. It has two benches and a farm style table. Though it is a basic style, it is still very gorgeous in appearance.

And it would also easily fit into any style of outdoor home décor. Plus, it would be an easy build because of its simple design.

2. The Wood-father Table

pt2

This picnic table is another traditional style. It reminds me of the kinds of picnic tables that you see at the local park.

And basically, the difference between this style of table and the last is that the benches are attached and stationary. So if you don’t want to worry about your benches being moved around then this might be a nice option for that.

3. The Easy Step-In Picnic Table

pt3

This picnic table is absolutely gorgeous. I love the wide plank design to it. And I also love the traditional style to the build as well.

But what makes this table so amazing is that the benches can’t be moved around on you. Yet, they give you a wider opening so you don’t trip over yourself trying to get in and out of this picnic table. I see it being easier on small children and senior citizens alike.

4. The Mini Connected Picnic Table

This picnic table is another version where the benches are physically connected to the table. Again, this is a great design for an open area where you don’t have space limitations. As well as, so you don’t have to worry about your benches being moved around.

But this one is really cute because it is simply a smaller version of the original design. So if you are needing a smaller table for a child’s space this would be a great solution.

5. Picnic Table With Planter

pt5

This picnic table rocks! No other words will do it justice I’m afraid. It is made out of reclaimed wood and has a space in the middle that will hold either ice or flowers.

So if the idea of having this charming little picnic table in your backyard isn’t enough, then imagine it also being a spot for some beautiful flowers. Those flowers could certainly add a splash of color while this table boasts rustic charm.

6. The Picnic Table Plus Seating Area

pt6

This picnic table is another one that is absolutely fascinating. As mentioned, picnic tables are great spaces for your yard. They provide a space to eat and even chat with coffee on occasion.

But what if you didn’t need that bulky table all of the time? Instead, sometimes, you just wanted a sitting area. Well, this table is dual purpose and can provide both

7. The Kids Picnic Table

pt7

If you have children then you know that they love to have their own space. When my middle son was younger he loved this one little café in town simply because it has stools that were ‘just his size’, as he put it.

Well, that is the same reason why small children would love this picnic table as well. It is beautiful but also the perfect size for small children to gather, play, and eat.

8. Children’s Picnic Table

pt8

This is another classic version of a picnic table that has been downsized to be a perfect feature for any child’s play area.

So try to imagine what a perfect table this would be during an outdoor barbecue or even for small children to host a tea party. It would be extra special with this neat table because it is made especially for them.

9. The Bench To Picnic Table Conversion Set

pt9

This picnic table can be either a bench or a picnic table. It is very unique in its design, though. Basically, you can have a simple bench meant to hold 2-3 people.

Or you can flip it down and have a table with only one bench for a sitting area. It might be a little smaller but is very functional. And truly a great idea.

10. The Cedar Picnic Table

pt10

This table is absolutely gorgeous. And it is so beautiful to look at because it is built from cedar. This isn’t the usual when looking at DIY picnic tables. But is definitely a nice addition to the backyard.

So this table is larger and has two benches meant to hold 4-6 people. But the color of the cedar wood just adds a classic rustic touch that would make any backyard pop with character.

11. A Tiny Toddler Picnic Table

pt11

This picnic table is meant for very small children. But it is absolutely adorable. It looks like the wooden version of one of the plastic picnic tables that you can purchase at the store for toddlers.

However, it has to be mentioned that this one is obviously a great DIY option, it appears sturdier than plastic, and it also can be customized to suit your child. Plus, I think it adds a great bit of charm to your outdoor play area.

12. DIY Children’s Picnic Table

This children’s picnic table is very charming but doesn’t appear to be very complicated to build at all. So if you are someone that is new to the world of carpentry, this task doesn’t look to be overwhelming.

pt13

If you have a smaller yard then this table could be a good solution for you. This table can either be a normal sized picnic table. Or it can be closed and converted to two separate benches.

14. The Composite Toddler Picnic Table

pt14

This table is another one that is meant for a small child. But it is really neat in its design. They actually used composite decking boards to build this little table.

This is another project that would be great for those that are just starting out with carpentry. So if you are in the market for a kid’s picnic table and looking for one that has a simple design then you might have just strolled upon it.

So you have children, but they aren’t babies anymore. Yet, they still would like to have their own table in the picnic area. I get it. I really do.

Well, if this is your situation then pay close attention to these picnic table plans. It is a design for a picnic table that isn’t quite full size but isn’t toddler size either. It is great for that in-between stage.

17. Folding Picnic Table Plans

This is another neat design for a folding picnic table. The design isn’t for half a picnic table. And it isn’t two benches that are placed together to make one whole picnic table.

Instead, this is actually one bench that folds out into a full-size picnic table with two benches on either side. It may be compact but it definitely holds two great needs in one little package.

18. The Preschool Picnic Table

21. The Picnic Table With Attached Benches

pt21

This picnic table is a classic design. It is what most will see when they go visit local parks. And probably what some people still have in their backyards for family gatherings.

This design is great for having both a picnic area and a sitting area. So if you have limited yard space then you might want to look at this design very closely.

23. The 10 Foot Picnic Table

I love this picnic table. It has the classic design of a table with attached benches. But it could hold a ton of people around it.
